If you want a quick way to access your photos in the Finder, open up your ~/Pictures folder, right-click "iPhoto Library" and select "Show Package Contents", then make an alias to the "Originals" (and/or "Modified") folders on your desktop, or even drag it to your sidebar.
Or just do a search on Originals/Modified in Finder
