Lunch with Nancy - June 11
I met Nancy for lunch today at Aladdin's in Schoen Place. It was a beautiful day. We sat on the upper deck and enjoyed a long, talkative lunch and then walked along the canal to the other end and back. We're going to get together again next month.
On the way home I was tempted to stop at Talbot's since I drive right by there on my way but something told me to just go home. Good thing too because I got home at 2:45 and at 3:00 the doorbell rang. It was Shane from our Long Term Care Insurance for an appointment to review our policies.

Lunch with Terry - June 10
What fun. I met Terry today for lunch at Red Lobster today at 11:30. For almost 4 hours straight it was non stop talk. It took us forever to even look at our menus but we must have taken turns eating and talking. We had the shrimp on a skewer with broccoli and rice, very healthy. BUT, we each did have one of those killer rolls.
After lunch I dropped off a cupboard door at Direct Buy so they could match the color on our way to the Canal to take a walk.
We walked and talked for over an hour. We had so much to catch up on that I don't think we ever finished a topic because one thing would lead to another. We hope to do this again soon and not wait another 4 years.
Pickleball was tonight but I only played a little because my knee was bothering me.
At home, after leftover spaghetti I worked on pictures for my letters book.

Update from Friday to Tuesday
Friday we played tennis in the morning and then went to check out flooring and cabinets at Direct Buy but forgot to bring a cabinet door so I have to go back Wednesday.
Saturday we were supposed to go to Britta and Steve's for dinner but Britta's back was bad so it was cancelled and we stayed home and had hot dogs.
Sunday we played golf and then went to the Open the Pool party at Stony Point.
Monday was golf with the ladies and I got a 53 @ Shadowlake Executive. Much better than the 60 of the week before. That one was awful.
Tuesday Larry played golf and I cleaned the kitchen floor with a toothbrush. I was cleaning the grout. Larry read somewhere that 1 part bleach to 3 parts water and a toothbrush would do it and it sure did. Much easier than using the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser that I used in the bathroom.
This is the before and after
Later in the afternoon we went on a bike ride and out to dinner with a group from Stony Point. We rode along the river and the cemetary on Lake Ave. We had dinner at Pier 45. It is absolutely beautiful. It's upstairs in the Fast Ferry Building along the river with a huge outside area. They've only been open a short while and have a lot of kinks to work out because the service was very slow. They probably lost a lot of money last night because they were doing a very good job of building customer satisfaction with all the free desserts and meals they were giving out. I would definitely go back for the ambience if nothing else.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
Today I feel like I spent most of the day on the phone and the rest of it in front of my computer. My friend Terry called, who I haven't seen in years. We're going to get together next week. Then I was on the phone with Apple for an hour because I couldn't add music to iDVD or iMovie. It turned out my iTunes was corrupted. Now everything is fine. Then Margy called, we've been phone tagging for months and we finally connected.
By then it was time to shower and get dressed before Larry got home from golf so he wouldn't see for a fact how lazy I was. I was drying my hair when he came home. I finished listening to a Dean Koontz book on CD, Darkfall and then started another one Heat Lightning by John Sandford while I made a strawberry rhubarb crumble.
I use a couple of recipes to make this dessert so I thought I'd just put it together here so I don't have to figure it out every time. This is my favorite. I don't use any pie crust so that save lots of calories so that you can add vanilla ice cream on top.
Strawberry Rhubarb Pie with Almond Crumb Topping
Topping:
1/2 pkg Almond Paste (4 oz)
1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
6 Tbsp butter (COLD), cut into small pieces
pinch salt
Cut up almond paste into small pieces and put in food processor together with oats, glour, sugar, butter pieces and salt. Pulse until just crumbly. DO NOT OVER PULSE! Set aside in refrigerator.
Filling:
1 1/2 cups sugar
2/3 cup flour
2 tsp cinnamon
2 lbs rhubarb
2 lbs strawberries
Preheat oven to 425
Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon in small bowl.
Wash rhubarb, trim ends; cut into 1-inch pieces. You should have 4-6 cups.
Wash strawberries, hull and halve (6 cups)
Place in a large bowl. Sprinkle with sugar mixture, toss lightly to mix. Let stand 15 minutes. Toss again.
Pour filling into deep pie plate or other deep baking dish.
Cover with crumbled topping. Cover with aluminum foil.
Bake in oven for 30 minutes.
Remove foil and continue baking 15 minutes or until topping is set and juices bubble up.
To catch any syrup that may boil over during baking slide a piece of aluminum foil onto the rack below pie.
I'm playing bridge at Betsy's house tonight so I can walk over and get some fresh air for the first time all day.
While I was at bridge Nancy called me back. She was having a household sale when I called her this morning. We haven't seen each other for almost 20 years except once when we ran into each other in Webster about 10 years ago.
